UVM Workforce Training

Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training

In June 2019, PG&E reached out to the UAA to seek information about training and education programs that could attract, train, and retain an additional 3,000+ utility arborists as quickly as possible. PG&E contracted with Butte College Contract Education to lead development of a state-wide training program with key stakeholders and the result was this revolutionary training.

Delivered over five (5) weeks, this training expedites the experience which typically takes places over six (6) months of on-the-job ground crew experience. Participants graduate from the program ready to fully participate as effective and, most importantly, safe crewmembers.

Program content includes:

Starting wages are $22.01 per hour plus benefits with movement up to $36 per hour plus benefits after 18 months on the job.

Utility Line Clearance Arborist Training requires full-time participation; therefore, to support participants, the UVM Scholarship Program provides a $3,000 stipend to college-approved participants upon successful course completion.

Participants can apply for a stipend here.
